A286 plates and sheets are iron-nickel-chromium superalloys with excellent strength, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature stability. Their chemical composition consists of iron (base), nickel (24-27%), chromium (13.5-16%), molybdenum (1-1.5%), titanium (1.9-2.35%), and vanadium (0.10-0.50%), with small additions of boron and aluminum. They have high tensile strength, good creep strength, and superior oxidation resistance up to 1300°F (704°C) mechanically. The benefits are better weldability, formability, and oxidation and scaling resistance and they are suited for aerospace, automotive, and marine uses where strength and heat resistance are of prime importance.
