Kovar Foil is an alloy that consists largely of 29% nickel, 17% cobalt, and 54% iron with traces of manganese and silicon. This material provides a thermal expansion coefficient very near that of glass, which allows it to be perfectly suited for sealing. Its mechanical properties involve a tensile strength of about 80,000 psi as well as having good fatigue characteristics. Physically, Kovar Foil has a melting point of about 1,410°C and is dimensionally stable at elevated temperatures.
