Kovar sheets and plates sheets consist of a nickel-iron-cobalt alloy, usually containing ~29% nickel, ~17% cobalt, ~0.2% silicon, ~0.3% manganese, and the remainder iron. They have very good thermal expansion control, comparable to borosilicate glass, and are therefore well suited for electronic sealing applications. Kovar has a tensile strength of ~517 MPa, yield strength of ~276 MPa, and elongation of ~30%. Its physical characteristics are a density of 8.36 g/cm³, thermal conductivity of 17 W/m·K, and Curie temperature of ~435°C, which will provide stability at high temperatures.
